Smart technologies can be instrumental in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, SDG #9, which calls for building resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation.

Autonomous indoor drones present vast potential in this regard. Equipped with sensors and cameras, they can navigate complex indoor spaces, conduct tasks without human intervention, and detect irregularities, triggering immediate responses to avert major incidents.

The Sustainable Development Goals don’t apply to Member States alone; the United Nations System is also called on to do its part, especially regarding SDG#7 on Affordable and Clean Energy. The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) has heeded this call; the Organization already runs on 100% renewable energy. Presently sourced both from the grid and from its own production, important steps are being taken to increase energy self-sufficiency.

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) has officially launched its latest “Capstone Project” collaboration with Barcelona’s ESADE University, as part of the UNGSC Academia Partnership Programme.

The Project engages students in generating fresh insights and innovative approaches to enhance data analysis at the United Nations, deliver technology solutions to field missions, and predict and prevent conflict.
