Ms. Giovanna Ceglie
Director United Nations Global Service Centre
Ms. Giovanna Ceglie was appointed Director of the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in August 2019.
She is a former Director at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) where she specialized in private sector support policies for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. As UNIDO Regional Director based in Cairo, from 2011 till 2019, she led policy dialogue and implementation of sustainable industrialization initiatives in several countries in the Arab region, focusing on agro-industrial value chain development, cleaner production and resource efficiency, small and medium enterprise promotion and job creation, renewable energy. She is a passionate advocate for the sustainable development goals and received an environmental award in 2019 for championing sustainability initiatives in Egypt. Prior to her position in Cairo, she led the UNIDO programme for clusters, value chains and business linkages providing technical assistance and policy advice to over 30 developing countries.
Giovanna Ceglie has authored and contributed to a number of papers, manuals and books on value chains, clusters and network development and has lectured at several institutions and universities on cluster development themes.
Ms. Ceglie is Italian and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a post-graduate degree in Development Studies.
She is married and has two children.
Mr. Michel Bergeron
Head of Premises of the United Nations Information and Communications Technology Facility in Valencia (UNICTF)
and Chief of Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT)
Mr. Bergeron is the Head of Premises of the United Nations Information and Communications Technology Facility in Valencia (UNICTF) and Chief of Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) since 2010. This position involves overall oversight and management of the operational, administrative, and support activities at the UNGSC in addition to establishing and nurturing close relations with the Government of Spain.
Mr. Bergeron, a Former Military Officer in the Canadian Signals, joined the United Nations in 1994 at UNHQ, in New York. Following his assignment in New York, he joined the United Nations Logistics Base in Brindisi, Italy (UNLB), before taking various assignments in the ICT field with the United Nations Preventive Deployment Force in FYROM (former Yugoslavia Republic of Macedonia), the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, Netherlands, and the United Nations International Criminal Court for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
In 2004, Mr. Bergeron returned to UNLB as Chief CITS, with specific responsibilities for the operational management of the DFS information and communications technology hub, support of the Communications and Information Technology portion of the strategic deployment stock and development of the secondary active telecommunications facility until his assignment in UNICTF-Valencia.
Mr. Bergeron holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing for Commerce and Industry in addition to a Master in Business Administration.
He is married to Diane and they have 3 children.
Mr. Herbert Pechek
Chief of Supply Chain Service
Mr. Pechek has over 25 years of professional experience in a wide variety of supply chain practices and project management. He has joined the UNGSC in April 2021 as the Chief Supply Chain Service where he oversees and manages operational support to UN field entities in terms of end-to-end supply chain including but not limited to the Demand and Source Planning activities, Strategic Deployment Stock, Environmental and Engineering solutions, Mission Liquidations and Reverse Logistics.
Mr. Pechek holds a Master’s degree in Construction Management from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria and a range of professional certifications (CSCP, CLTD, SCOR-P) and was awarded as the ASCM (Association for Supply Chain Management) Supply Chain Leader of the Year in 2020 for his contributions to the supply chain trade with focus on resource management and professional leadership. In his assignments he focuses on concept-based process transformation, a customer-centric service delivery design, performance and service optimization, as well as innovative solution design and people development. He previously worked in support of peacekeeping operations in Somalia, Haiti, Timor Leste, and Kosovo and worked at the Logistics Division in UNHQ between 2007-10. Mr. Pechek substantially contributed to the introduction of horizontally structured end-to-end supply chain processes in the United Nations peacekeeping operations and is a regular keynote speaker at supply chain conferences and events.
He is a native of Austria, is married and has three sons with his wife Shabnam.
Ms. Jangar Mc Gill Richards
Chief of Central Service
Ms. Richards joined the UNGSC in February 2022 as the Chief of Central Service, leading some operational, administrative and support services for the organization inclusive of the Conference and Learning Center, Human Resources, Campus Support, and Occupational Safety and Health. She assists the Director in implementing administrative strategies and projects.
In addition to her current role, Ms.Richards has over 20 years of professional knowledge, experience and proven success in healthcare and hospital services/operations, strategic and financial planning, project management, client management, and business development.
She joined the United Nations in 2018 as the Chief, Service Delivery Management with the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). Prior to that, Ms. Richards served in various leadership capacities in the private sector, within the healthcare administration industry from 2005 to 2018, with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, New York University Medical Center and other renowned facilities. She was tasked to lead change management initiatives, redesign patient flow processes, develop and implement growth strategies, manage and expand client relationships and develop strategic business plans. Instrumental in her work was implementing client relationship models, tools/systems, revamping day-to-day operations of many aspects of the business and development of programs.
Ms. Richards holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology, a Master of Health Services Administration, both from the George Washington University in Washington, DC and certificates in leadership development and process redesign.
She is married and has two children.
