Rethinking underutilized spaces for renewable energy production

Submitted by caputon on

At The Solution Factory, we bring together a diverse team of experts across sectors to create and test solutions for UNGSC’s clients based on practical observations in the field. This virtual think tank unites architects, engineers, and specialists to address the unique challenges in the locations we operate.

One of the instrumental features of our work is the use of UNGSC’s Green Island, a 10,000 square meter area that simulates a 30-person camp. This facility enables us to rigorously test new products in realistic field conditions, ensuring their efficiency and durability.

Our latest product undergoing testing is the Solar Pavement. This rapidly deployable clean energy solution aims to leverage pedestrian walkways—common in UN camps—for photovoltaic (PV) installations, turning often underutilized surfaces into valuable sources of small capacity renewable energy.

Focused on continuous improvement, we are committed to refining these technologies. The results from these tests will guide the next steps as we work closely with clients and partners to advance efficiency.
