TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio)

Submitted by caputon on

TETRA is the global digital radio standard for secure communications where no reliable commercial networks exist.

Centralized at the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC), the system connects more than 32,000 radio users across eight field entities: MONUSCO, MINUSCA, UNAMA, UNMISS, RSCE, UNISFA, UNSMIL, UNSOS, carrying around 1million calls monthly with 100% availability

By consolidating operations and management to a centralized, UNGSC hosted infrastructure, TETRA has streamlined operations, reduced mission-level maintenance and operational cost, and strengthened interoperability across peacekeeping and special political missions.

Beyond savings, TETRA enhances safety and security through geolocation services that support operations in remote and high-risk areas — a proven communications backbone for field missions worldwide.
