The UNGSC Central Service (CS) is responsible for ensuring that UNGSC premises are welcoming, environmentally sustainable, and continuously enhanced to serve UNGSC’s expanding array of clients and partners.
CS provides state-of-the-art Conference and Event Management services, special programmes in Occupational Health and Safety, as well as enabling and advisory support in human resources, procurement, property and facilities management, and finance.
Furthermore, CS acts in a capacitating role, to allow the two service delivery pillars, namely the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) and the Supply Chain Service (SCS), as well as the several entities co-located on UNGSC premises, to deliver their operational mandates.
Our Flagship Initiatives
Renewable energy installations – Maximum obtainable energy independence by 2028
Photovoltaic and solar installations at UNGSC premises in both Brindisi and Valencia are on target to help UNGSC reach maximum obtainable independence and cover daylight electricity consumption by 2028. Further initiatives include the systematic replacement of legacy equipment and lights with more energy efficient alternatives, such as inverter air conditioning systems and LED lights. As part of UNGSC’s efforts to advance environmental responsibility at home, and in the field, these measures constitute a valuable model of “leading by example.”
5 Day OSH Courses – Intensive Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Courses
5 Day OSH Courses introduce and equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills to serve as Occupational Health and Safety Focal Points in the UN workplace. Courses entail classroom lectures, demonstrations, working group assignments, discussions, practical exercises, and incident simulations. They are organized in close cooperation with United Nations Headquarters Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) and delivered primarily at UNGSC premises.
Smart Buildings – Responsible consumption and resource allocation enabled by smart technologies
Central Service is leading the way in monitoring and managing the remote usage of infrastructure and utilities through smart technologies, to reduce the use of water and electricity at UNGSC facilities. Recently completed smart building prototypes, with motion sensors, switches, and monitoring devices, will utilize UNGSC’s Field Remote Monitoring System (FRIM) to provide comparative data and enable data-driven decision making for future energy projects and resource allocation.
Campus Transformational Mobility Plan – Enhanced health, wellness, and safety on the UNGSC Campus
Central Service’s new mobility plan will foster a healthier and safer UNGSC Campus by reducing the use of fossil fuel vehicles and facilitating physical activity on campus. New initiatives include enhanced walkways and pedestrian markings, electric vehicle and bicycle connections, improved accessibility, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and shared mobility services.
This initiative is complemented by a monthly health and wellness awareness campaign led by Medical Clinic personnel, which addresses nutritional needs; communicable and non-communicable diseases; mental health; preventative medicine; and women’s health, among other areas.

Occupational Safety and Health Services
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) services provide support and implementation of risk management programmes for field missions.
Services include technical advice; needs assessment; capacity building; monitoring; training; and the implementation of reporting systems.
The UNGSC OSH team supports heads of UN entities in fulfilling their duty of care for staff safety and well-being, considering the specific contexts in which their organizations work. OSH services ultimately improve the working conditions and environments of UN personnel worldwide.
OSH works closely with the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH).

Staff Development
services
Staff Development Services consist of capacity-building opportunities and certification on diverse emerging topics through both formal and informal training.
Formal training provides certification in topics such as emotional intelligence; coaching; public speaking and presenting for impact; data visualization; digital literacy; service excellence; leadership; and many others. It also encompasses language classes to advance multilingualism and support staff integration with UNGSC’s local communities in Italy and Spain.
Informal training consists of a staff immersion programme designed to support career development by strengthening interpersonal relationships, cross-functional team collaboration, and continuous learning.
