Empowering Progress: Clean Energy at the UNGSC Base in Valencia

Submitted by Nadia Caputo on

At the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC), in addition to supporting field missions in their clean energy goals, we are also committed to leading by example at our Bases.

At our Valencia Base, the United Nations Information and Communication Technology Facility (UNICTF), we’ve formed the Green Team—a passionate group comprised of staff from co-located partners UNGSC, UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC). Together, we are driving awareness and action on our environmental objectives.

To celebrate International Day of Clean Energy, we gathered in front of our solar panels to demonstrate our commitment and engage our staff in learning about some key initiatives:

  • 95% of our energy comes from solar power during peak hours, with the remaining 5% sourced from another clean energy provider.
  • We save 400 liters of water daily through our efficient automatic irrigation system.
  • Our Data Centre is internationally recognized for its sustainability, earning accolades for its eco-friendly practices.

As we reflect on the strides we've made, we remain deeply committed to advancing toward a cleaner, greener future for all!
