What is Unite XR Programme?
Nowadays, our way of life has radically changed due to the impact of COVID19. Many of us are working from home, a new way of doing business that requires a dependency on technology like never before. Technology has proved a useful and necessary tool to maintain connection and communication with colleagues, partners, and sometimes family and friends.
As a result of social distancing and travel restrictions, advanced immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) have become a strong consideration for our new common reality. Extended Reality (XR) is the umbrella term which encapsulates all the existing immersive technologies (AR, VR and MR) and the ones that are still to be created.
United Nations has established the Unite XR Programme with the aim of providing UN Field Missions and other Agencies/Offices with innovative and advanced information technology solutions based on XR that can be applied in a wide range of ways, such as remote technical support, medical services, military and training.
